This is an excellent book for those of you who would like to understand the dynamics of a philosophically informed historical analysis in the development of ideas as they arose and were formulated after the rise of scientific empiricism and rationalism. Below is a review from the Amazon site to which I give a resounding endorsement.

I read this book as it was the college text book for an Introduction to Philosophy course I took in 1977 at Texas Tech University. It is a superior book and I have referred back to it numerous times over the last 23 years since I first read it. I, like the reviewer above, have read the third edition. The book is extremely readable, which is not always the case with philosophy books, even those that are introductory in nature. The book is thorough and well-organized. I highly recommended it for anyone with an interest in the basic elements of Philosophy.
