Screwtape

There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.

Due to the fact that most of the You Tubes on the site are heavily laden with theoretical and philosophical content, you may find it helpful to click on the subtitles/closed caption [CC] icons located on the lower right hand corner of the You Tubes.

In Addition: You may find it helpful to tweak the playback speed at certain junctures since some of the commentary on the YouTube’s are given at a very fast pace (a perfect example of this is the Ben Shapiro commentary on The Screwtape Letters is a prime example of this).

This can be accomplished by 1) clicking on the settings tab (it’s the gear icon just to the right of the CC closed caption icon at the bottom of the screen), and then 2) selecting the playback speed (which should be set at normal). I suggest selecting the 0.75 setting as a test.

After going through this series and for those of you who would like to delve into a fuller biblical presentation of how orthodox Christians have come to consider what the biblical view of Satan is, you may want to obtain a free digital copy of Lewis Sperry Chafer’s book titled Satan. If so just follow the hot link below Kug’s review, where you can read more reviews and details about this work, as well as how to obtain a free digital copy.

An Amazon Review: by Kug: I read of this book in an article that was referencing it so thought, why not? It was written by a theologian in I believe 1907. Its not necessarily an easy read but it is an eye opening one. Keep in mind this was written over 100 years ago and the guy lays out much of what we are experiencing and seeing today. It takes you inside the Bible and an in depth study of the character Satan. I’ve read a lot but nothing quite like this. It is very specific, well documented and kept my interest end to end. Its not a light read but well worth it==> Satan.

It is important to make a distinction between evil and tragedy. An evil act is a human act, aimed at harm for harm’s sake. The capacity to act in an evil manner depends on self-consciousness: if I know how I can be hurt, I know how to hurt others. Evil destroys the individual’s faith in human nature. Tragedy, by contrast, is an inevitable consequence of human vulnerability. Tragic circumstances are destructive, but not motivated. Human beings can withstand tragedy, but can be undermined by evil.
