I’d like to begin my introduction by explaining to you both how and why, I became so interested in C.S. Lewis, and more specifically, how this web site first came about. I first made a profession of faith in Christ at 13 years years of age. However, I came back to that profession 20 years later and made a serious commitment. It was during those times I became familiar with C.S. Lewis, and began to love his work, which was about 36 years ago.
Subseqenty, I did an undergraduate degree at the University of Dallas in their Philosophy program, and from there I earned a Master’s degree in the Humanities program at The University of Texas at Dallas. After that I went to the University of Texas at Arlington and acquired 18 graduate hours in Philosopy, completing the requirements for being credentialed to teach either Philosophy, and/or the Humanities at a college level.
Since that time I’ve had 2 open heart surgeries, the last one 10 years ago. After undergoing the 2nd surgery, and spending 1 & 1/2 weeks in recovery, and was due to be released from the hospital the next day, I experienced three full blown strokes. That delayed my release from Parkland Memorial Hospital, where the operations were performed, for three-months. During that period I was required to go through cognitive therapy, occupational therapy, and had to relearn how to swallow. I also began fighting off the effects of a lisp, that were a result of the strokes.
During that three month process, I was visited by a pastor friend of mine where I went to church, and he asked me, if I’d ever heard of something called WordPress? I had to respond no, and then I asked him, “what is WordPress?”
He told me that he wasn’t going to tell me, but rather I should look into it, that it just might hold some promise for me. After being released from Parkland, I proceeded to find out that WordPress was a web design program, and what was more, online WordPress courses were being taught, for free, at the Nicholson Memorial Library in Garland where I lived at the time. So, I signed up as soon as I was able, and took two of their online courses. It was at this time I began working on The C.S. Lewis Study Group’s website, or blog.
I’ve been working on it for a little over ten years now, and have developed a lot of content. If you experience any difficulties trying to access the page, I recommend that you click here . . .
. . . to access the web page.
On the opening (which should be) of the main page you’ll see a hot-link titled, “Click Here To Proceed Further.” After clicking on that, you should arrive at the Visitor’s Space page. If you then scroll down a bit you will see a site roadmap. Click on page 1 so you will be able to determine how to negotiate to some of the main pages on the site. If you open page 2, of the roadmap, you’ll find a number of presentations that are listed, of which I’ve embedded on The Modern & Postmodern Theories and Ideologies page. The map was laid out for a desktop, it also works well for cell phones, just click on the, “select a page,” at the top of a cell Phone to get the dropdown menu, however; you will need to search out the name of the individual page, if you take that route. Also, you can then refer to the roadmap so you can find subject matter that coincides with your interests.
I suggest that you start out at the Jordan Peterson Bible Series page, where you can see a You Tube at the top of the page, which explains at least some of the historical realities about our Bible. Then I suggest that you simply work your way down through the Prologomena section, until arriving at the bottom, where you’ll find the Christian Philosophy hot link. This is my attempt to provide Petersons’ fundamental orientation, considered from a philosophical and/or theoretical standpoint. After a short presentation by Dr. R.C. Sproul on some of the principles of liberal theology, just click on the link for Christian Philosophy just beneath that. After arriving on that page (you will see suggestions from here on out) and as I suggest, you should then scroll down until you arrive at a short explanation of two key Christian concepts, of the Logos, and of the Mythos, given by a Dr. Michael Sugrue. Then you’ll be set up to view the first episode of the Jordan Peterson Bible series, which I’ve edited to begin up at the point in which, a very profound explanation of the idea of Logos is given..
After that, be sure to click on the hot link, THE LOGOS which is an excerpt I extracted from a book authored by Dr. Peter Kreeft . . . (of whom I have a page devoted to his work on the web site) . . . titled, The Platonic Tradition.
From there, you’ll want to go down to a hot link that’ll lead you to a page titled, “Lewis and Tolkien Debate History and Lies,” which was the first page I developed for the site when I began to work on it. It explains how they began to think about these ideas, and this was especially true of Lewis, since Tolkien acted to explain to Lewis the reasoning on how he (i.e.Tolkien) understood the dynamics between God’s Soverenignty and history, and how these concepts should be, or at least can be, considered from a Christian point of view.
If you made it this far, I very much appreciate your interest in our site. I’ll look forward to discussing these ideas with you, along with the kind of issues that arise from them.
